The Electric Vehicle Technician Program addresses the growing demand for skilled professionals capable of servicing and maintaining high-voltage electric vehicles (EVs).
The Electric Vehicle Automotive Technician program equips participants with specialized skills to safely diagnose, service, and repair Electric Vehicles (Plug-in hybrids and full EVs), including intricate tasks involving battery systems and advanced electrical components. Designed to bridge the gap in automotive service expertise, the program prepares technicians with a comprehensive understanding of power electronics and data communication systems crucial for EV operations.

Tasks of an EV Automotive Technician include:

EV Diagnosis and Repair: Perform comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on
electric vehicles, including but not limited to battery systems, electrical components, charging
systems, and drivetrain components.
Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance tasks on EVs, such as brake inspections, tire
rotations, fluid checks, and software updates to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Battery Management: Monitor and manage the health of EV batteries, including capacity testing,
balancing, and replacement as needed.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when working with high-voltage
electrical systems, and implement best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest EV technology advancements, industry trends,
and repair techniques through training and self-study.

GACC works closely with the community colleges, career and technical centers and other credentialing institutions in the areas closest to where our apprentices live or work. The Apprentices will attend community college courses that are integrated into the training at the employer.

1 year of Technical Instruction and Practical Labs at the College include:

Safety and Electrical Awareness and Safe Behavior at the workplace
High Voltage Drive Train Topology & Construction
Electric Motors and Controls
Battery Management
Additional EV Automotive Systems
